About HBO's The Weight of The Nation:
Since the mid-1980s obesity has increased so dramatically that not only is it an epidemic, but it's become one of the most serious public health and public policy problems facing the United States. Two-thirds of U.S. adults and nearly one-third of U.S. children and adolescents (aged 2-19) are overweight or obese.
With obesity at epidemic proportions, itʼs more important than ever for communities to join together in an effort to combat this current crisis. According to the surgeon general, researchers warn that many of our children—our most precious resource—will be seriously afflicted in early adulthood with medical conditions such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease.”
Camas and Washougal On a Diet is dedicated to improving the health and nutrition of our community, which is why we hosted a screening of the HBO documentary, THE WEIGHT OF THE NATION. The screening, held on July 11th, 2012 at 5:00pm at The Liberty Theatre in downtown Camas, offered an in-depth look at obesity. The event was followed by a discussion about how we can work to reduce obesity rates in our community. In that discussion, the group created the following "action items"/ideas to pursue to create a stronger effort in our area.
Please participate in this important community effort. Contribute in the ways that you can, whether by participating in the events, volunteering as a point person or event staff member, sponsoring events or our web site efforts or any other way you find that your talents can help.

Thank you to Chrisetta Mosley, local author, blogger, speaker and survivor of childhood obesity for hosting the April 3rd & 10th presentation of "Children in Crisis". We came together to watch the documentary and talk about what we can do about this raging epidemic, now over 20% in children ages 6-11.
