About Camas and Washougal on a Diet
Tucked away in a suburban community of Portland, Oregon are the two Washington state cities of Camas and Washougal. These small but close-knit towns have been experiencing the same consequences of what many Americans are with the growing issues of Community Health; Obesity.
1 in 3 adults are obese! The growth rate of obesity has become a National epidemic. An even more concerning issue is with the fastest growing obesity demographic in America where 1 in 6 children are obese. With thousands of diet, nutrition and self-help books, industries and resources accessible today to help this problem… so why isn’t it working?
The mayors of these towns want to change things. The two cities of Camas and Washougal are rooted in over 100 years of competition for mill sites, manufacturing business, housing developments and educational resources, the people of these rival towns have a natural affinity to compete so providing a formal, fun and engaging a weight loss and exercise challenge could change the lives of many citizens. The Challenge to the community will help create awareness and motivation regarding healthy lifestyles, encourage each other to keep moving and create a "healthy motivation" for the participants. The program will educate and challenge participants to create a healthier permanent lifestyle for themselves, their friends, co-workers and family.
Inspiration and examples of supporting initiatives include Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move”, Mayor Mick Cornett's Oklahoma City On A Diet and the many experiences we have seen on TV with NBC's "The Biggest Loser®" television show.
